La muerte en acción de Alfonso Cano constituye un duro golpe a las aspiraciones del pueblo colombiano a justicia social y a desarrollo pacífico, que, hace muchos años, sigue siendo frustrado por el gobierno colombiano y su patrón el imperialismo norteamericano.

Hace más que sesenta años, Colombia ha sufrido la represión violenta por el estado y fuerzas paramilitares. Muchas veces se buscó un camino pacífico, solo para descubrir que la oligarquía colombiana y el imperialismo norte americano temen la paz y sacan ganancias de la guerra.

A la amenaza de un acuerdo pacifico siempre hay una respuesta militar. Políticos civiles y otros personajes públicos involucrados en la busca de la paz también se enfrentan a la represión del estado y las amenazas de los escuadrones de muerte paramilitares.

La operación masivo militar con el fin de matar a Alfonso Cano, usando la última tecnología de las EEUU, demuestra, una vez más, la brutalidad del régimen de Santos y la vaciedad de sus palabras lindas.

Al mismo tiempo las fuerzas del estado y los paramilitares siguen con la represión sangrienta a la lucha pacífica de los pueblos indígenas, a los campesinas/os que expulsan de sus tierra, a las/os trabajadoras/es organizadas/os en sindicatos, a las/os estudiantes.

El Partido Comunista de Irlanda se compromiso a la solidaridad con el pueblo colombiano en su lucha para un camino pacífico, justicia social, liberación nacional y socialismo.

Statement issued 12th November:

The death in action of Alfonso Cano is a severe blow to the aspirations of the Colombian people for social justice and peaceful development which have long been frustrated by the Colombian state and its backer United States imperialism.

For over sixty years Colombia has suffered the violent repression of state and paramilitary forces. Many times a peaceful way forward was sought, only to find that the Colombian oligarchy and the United States imperialists fear peace and profit from war.

The threat of a peaceful settlement always brings a military response. Civilian politicians and other public figures involved in the search for peace also face state repression and threats from paramilitary death squads.

The massive military operation with the aim of killing Alfonso Cano, mounted with the aid of the latest technology from the United States, exposes the brutality of the Santos government and the hollowness of his fine words.

At the same time the state and paramilitary forces continue with their murderous repression of the peaceful struggle of the indigenous peoples, of the peasants whom they are driving from their land, of the workers organised in trade unions, of the students.

The Communist Party of Ireland pledges its continuing solidarity with the Colombian people in their struggle for a peaceful way forward, for social justice, for national liberation and for socialism.
